Lake Kariba & Siavonga

Sunsets over the world's largest reservoir

Siavonga sits on the Zambian shore of Lake Kariba, the largest man-made reservoir on earth. After the intensity of a safari, it is the place to slow down: long, golden sunsets over the water, the cry of fish eagles, and a horizon broken only by the ghostly drowned forests that rise from the lake.

Days here move gently. Drift out on a houseboat, cast a line for bream and tigerfish, or simply watch elephants come down to drink along the distant shoreline. It is an easy, restorative stop, popular with Zambian families and a quiet counterpoint to the bush.

We use Siavonga as a soft landing or a celebratory finale, often combined with the falls or a southern-circuit safari.
