Victoria Falls
Mosi-oa-Tunya, the smoke that thunders
Known to the Kololo people as Mosi-oa-Tunya, the smoke that thunders, Victoria Falls is where most Zambian journeys begin. From the town of Livingstone you can feel the falls before you see them: a column of mist rising hundreds of feet, visible from miles away, and a roar that carries across the river.
On the Zambian side you walk right up to the lip of the gorge. Knife-Edge Bridge brings you into the spray; in the dry season, the daring slip into Devil's Pool, a natural infinity edge at the very brink. Sundowner cruises drift past hippo pods and elephants crossing the Zambezi, and the river's quiet upper reaches are perfect for first-time visitors and families alike.
Livingstone is an unhurried, welcoming town: easy to reach, rich in colonial-era history, and the natural gateway to the rest of Zambia. We pair the falls with river safaris, village visits, and a gentle introduction to the warmth that defines this country.
